Color duplex for a wired printing routine

The Xerox Phaser 6510/DN combines color LED printing, automatic ordinary-paper duplex and a documented passcode-held job routine. It is a configuration to assess for a compatible USB or Ethernet office that prints documents but uses another device for scanning and copying.

The DN includes automatic two-sided printing, unlike the manual-duplex N. It does not include the wireless adapter supplied with the DNI. Xerox's US page says the Phaser 6510 is no longer sold as new, so confirm the actual unit's electrical edition, condition and available drivers before choosing it for reuse.

Keep the duplex choice tied to the loaded media

Letter, A4 and Legal fit the included main tray and bypass. Those ordinary sizes also fit the DN's automatic duplex range, from 140 by 210 to 216 by 356 mm. In a compatible print driver, choose long-edge or short-edge binding according to the intended page layout.

The type and weight restrictions still apply. The guide lists plain stock at 75–105 gsm and separately specified lightweight card stock through 176 gsm for duplex. A printer's ability to accept a heavy sheet in one-sided printing does not make every such sheet suitable for automatic turning.

The 250-sheet main tray and 50-sheet bypass provide 300 ordinary sheets under the detailed sheet's 20 lb/75 gsm capacity basis. Extending a tray for Legal makes it protrude from the front. Set the loaded paper size and type at the printer and in the driver after changing stock.

An additional 550-sheet drawer can raise total input to 850, but that capacity requires the option. The base configuration should be assessed at 300. The output tray's 150-sheet rating is a different part of the paper path.

Use the one-sided envelope instructions

Envelopes can use Tray 1 or the bypass, with Envelope selected as the media type. They are a separate one-sided routine, rather than part of automatic ordinary-paper duplex. Avoid unsupported window, clasp or padded envelopes.

The bypass holds no more than five envelopes. For Number 10, the instructions specify short edge first with flaps down and to the right. Other listed formats have their own orientations. Flatten suitable envelopes before loading and adjust the guides without compressing the stack.

USB, Ethernet and mobile printing serve different setups

Connect a computer directly to the rear USB Type B socket with a suitable cable and install its print driver. Ethernet instead connects the printer through a router or switch and provides access to the embedded web settings. The family includes a separately optional wireless adapter, so a DN without that hardware should not be planned as a Wi-Fi printer.

AirPrint or Mopria can still provide basic printing on a suitable shared network while the printer uses Ethernet. AirPrint requires IPP and Bonjour enabled, along with appropriate subnet discovery. A mobile app's controls remain separate from the desktop driver's paper and protected-job options.

The shared brochure also describes the WorkCentre 6515. That MFP's glass, feeder, scan-to-computer, copying and fax functions do not belong to the Phaser 6510/DN.

Release a Secure Print job at the button panel

In the compatible computer driver, choose Secure Print, enter and confirm a passcode, then send the document. At the printer, press Print Menu and navigate to Personal & Secure. Select the user name, enter the passcode using the arrow buttons and choose the intended job to print or delete.

This two-line button panel differs from the WorkCentre touchscreen. Personal Print does not use a passcode, so choose the protected job type deliberately. Verify that the required driver controls are available on the actual computer.

Plan supplies, workload and access around an earlier unit

The maker declares up to 30 one-sided Letter pages per minute in color or monochrome. A4 and duplex rates are separate. The regional detailed sheet recommends up to 3,000 regular monthly pages, while the US legacy page shows a different 4,000-page summary; 50,000 maximum duty is a separate ceiling.

Included toner declarations are 1,500 black and 1,000 pages per color under ISO/IEC 19798. Replacement cartridge capacities differ, and the four drums plus waste cartridge are separate maintenance items. Confirm regional compatibility before ordering.

Variant-specific tables list a body about 16.5 inches wide, 19 deep and 13.7 high at 52.5 pounds. Allow cover, output and extended-tray access beyond that outline. Choose an MFP for originals or an explicitly wireless configuration when those functions are essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker-declared one-sided print speed is up to 30 Letter pages/min for color or monochrome. The US brochure lists 28 A4 pages/min, while the guide gives 28.6; A4 figures and separate duplex images/pages rates are not substituted for Letter speed. The regional detailed sheet recommends up to 3,000 regular monthly pages; the US legacy page shows a different 4K summary. The conservative detailed recommendation is retained separately from 50,000 maximum duty.

Paper handling

The included 250-sheet Tray 1 and 50-sheet bypass total 300 ordinary sheets on 20 lb / 75 gsm stock. Both accept Letter, Legal and A4. Automatic duplex supports those sizes within 140 x 210 to 216 x 356 mm; plain stock is 75–105 gsm, with separately listed duplex media through 176 gsm. Optional Tray 2 adds 550 sheets for 850 maximum. Envelopes use Tray 1 or bypass one-sided, with a five-envelope bypass limit. Legal tray extension protrudes.

Scanning arrangement

The Phaser 6510 is color print-only. It has no glass, feeder, copying, computer scanning or native fax. The WorkCentre 6515 in the shared brochure has separate capture hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

DN includes rear USB Type B and gigabit Ethernet. The wireless adapter is optional, so infrastructure Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct are outside the base plans. Basic AirPrint/Mopria can use the Ethernet printer on a suitable shared network. The two-line button panel and computer print driver provide the documented Secure Print routine.

Supplies and declared yields

The detailed box list declares included black toner at 1,500 and each color at 1,000 average standard pages under ISO/IEC 19798. Replacement declarations are black 2,500/5,500 and color 1,000/2,400/4,300. US part numbers include black 106R03476 and 106R03480, standard CMY 106R03473–106R03475, high CMY 106R03477–106R03479 and extra-high CMY 106R03690–106R03692; verify the unit’s regional compatibility. Four drums are declared at approximately 48,000 pages and waste cartridge 108R01416 at 30,000, on the US brochure’s average three-page A4/Letter job basis. No current page cost is calculated.

Software and support

Compatible Xerox drivers provide job-type controls. Secure Print sets a passcode on the computer, then requires Print Menu > Personal & Secure, user selection and passcode entry using the printer arrow buttons before release. Personal Print explicitly has no passcode. The two-line button display is different from the WorkCentre touchscreen. No exact passcode length or optional storage requirement is invented; verify current drivers for the intended operating system.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier US DN configuration; Xerox says Phaser 6510 is no longer sold as new. Specific variant tables give a standard body 16.5 in wide, 19 deep and 13.7 high at 52.5 lb. The guide’s generic outline gives 19.6 in depth and rounds weight to 53 lb; allow generous operating access and measure the actual installed unit. Additional drawer hardware changes height and weight. Separate 120 V and 220–240 V classes are documented; verify the actual unit label.
