Phaser 6700/DNIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Compatible computer workgroups needing ordinary color reports, Legal documents and two standard paper sources.

The main tradeoff

DN has no scanner, built-in Wi-Fi or standard disk for PIN-held jobs, and its body width differs between original sources.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can Ethernet automatically duplex Legal color documents with 700 included sheets for 12,000-page months?

Yes. DN includes a 550-sheet main tray and 150-sheet MPT supporting ordinary Legal and standard automatic duplex within the documented 60–220 gsm range and type restrictions. The current US page gives a 15,000-page monthly headline, so 12,000 is within that ceiling.

Can USB support a declared 47 ppm one-sided Letter rate and ordinary A4 duplex?

Yes. The guide separately gives 47 Letter and 45 A4 pages/min in standard one-sided quality, the same in color or monochrome. A4 is in the included paper and automatic-duplex ranges. The headline Letter rate is not a measured or two-sided speed.

Does standard DN include PIN-held printing because it has a color touchscreen and encryption?

No. Secure Print requires the optional Productivity Kit with its hard disk. The touchscreen and general security features do not establish that disk or the special-job workflow on the base DN.

A wired color printer for ordinary office documents

The Xerox Phaser 6700DN combines automatic print duplex with two standard paper sources: a 150-sheet multipurpose tray and a 550-sheet main drawer. The nominal 700-sheet input supports ordinary Letter, Legal and A4, while USB and Gigabit Ethernet provide the documented computer connections.

DN is a print-only color laser configuration. Its touchscreen does not add scanning, copying or fax. Compared with the taller DT and DX variants, it also lacks their extra included paper equipment; the Productivity Kit with hard disk remains optional on DN.

Keep paper size, source and duplex settings together

The original guide explicitly lists Letter, Legal and A4 in the normal trays. Automatic two-sided sheets must fit 140 by 210 mm through 215.9 by 355.6 mm and the documented 60–220 gsm range, with the relevant media-type restrictions. The three ordinary sizes fit that routine.

Set the actual size and type at the printer and in a compatible driver. The driver's duplex and binding settings determine how pages turn; a two-sided option does not make unsupported specialty media suitable. Small formats, envelopes and transparencies must not inherit ordinary-paper duplex simply because they appear elsewhere in a media list.

Envelopes use either Tray 1 or Tray 2. Xerox recommends Tray 2 when printing more than five at a time, with size-specific loading and Envelope selected in the driver. Use paper envelopes and avoid windows, metal clasps, padding, heat-activated glue and press-and-seal flaps. The 700-sheet ordinary-paper total is not an envelope stack allowance.

A precise stock-weight basis for the entire nominal input count is unestablished. Optional 550-sheet drawers, the 1,100-sheet feeder and the office finisher can change the installed arrangement, but they are excluded from DN's standard count. Check the actual machine rather than relying on a family image showing an expanded tower.

Choose a direct computer or configured network route

USB 2.0 connects directly to a compatible computer. Ethernet supports a configured network and the embedded CentreWare Internet Services interface for printer status and settings. The guide specifies Category 5 or better network cable and initial printer setup before software installation.

The print languages include Adobe PostScript 3 and PCL 6/PCL 5c emulation, with 1 GB standard memory expandable to 2 GB. Verify the actual operating system and driver support before adopting an older printer. External wireless is optional; Bonjour discovery and a PC Mobile Express Driver entry do not establish native AirPrint or Mopria.

Confidential release needs the optional disk

The original guide requires an optional hard drive for special job types. DN therefore does not include ready-to-use Secure Print merely because it has encryption, a color touchscreen or standard RAM collation.

With the Productivity Kit and a suitable driver, Secure Print uses a four-to-ten-digit passcode. At the panel, touch Jobs, Personal and Secure Jobs and the assigned private folder. Enter the same code, choose the job and touch Print; the job is deleted from the disk after printing. Sample Set and other stored-job routines have their own behavior.

Read the speed table by paper and quality mode

The guide declares standard-quality continuous one-sided output at 47 Letter or 45 A4 pages per minute, the same in color and monochrome. Standard two-sided output is separately 38 Letter or 36 A4. Photo mode has lower declarations. These are manufacturer figures, not measured output or a guarantee for every graphics job.

The current exact US reference page shows up to 15,000 pages per month. The brochure's 120,000-page duty figure is explicitly a maximum for one month that is not expected to be sustained. Use the ordinary-month figure when planning regular work.

Verify supplies and the actual physical footprint

US standard replacement toner is declared at 7,100 black and 5,000 pages for each color. High-capacity versions are 18,000 black and 12,000 for each color under ISO/IEC 19798. Starter yields remain unestablished. Imaging units and the waste cartridge have separate maintenance conditions based on average four-page Letter/A4 jobs.

The original US list establishes the 110 V DN. Its exact guide table gives a 22.4 by 20.3 by 16.9 inch body at 93 pounds, while both brochures list a 22-inch width. Use the larger width for planning, verify the actual unit and leave additional loading, cover, output, ventilation and service room.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The actual guide 151 table declares standard-quality continuous one-sided output at 47 Letter or 45 A4 pages/min, the same in color and monochrome. Standard two-sided output is separately 38 Letter/36 A4; Photo mode is separately 24 Letter one-sided/19 two-sided. These are maker declarations, not measured or ISO-throughput claims. Current exact US guidance is up to 15,000 pages/month; the 120,000-page duty figure is explicitly a one-month maximum not expected to be sustained.

Paper handling

DN includes a 150-sheet multipurpose Tray 1 and 550-sheet Tray 2, totaling 700 nominal ordinary sheets. Both positively support Letter, Legal and A4; a precise stock-weight basis for the full count is unestablished. Ordinary automatic duplex is standard for these sizes within 140 x 210 to 215.9 x 355.6 mm and 60–220 gsm, subject to media-type restrictions. Envelopes use Trays 1 or 2, with Tray 2 recommended above five at a time; use the format-specific loading and Envelope driver setting. Selected envelopes, transparencies and small sizes do not inherit ordinary duplex. Additional 550/1,100-sheet feeders and the office finisher are optional, not included in 700.

Scanning arrangement

A color print-only laser printer without scanning, copying, fax, glass or an original-document feeder. The 4.3-inch color touchscreen and optional blank-paper feeders do not establish color scanning or an ADF.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB 2.0 supports direct compatible computer printing; 10/100/1000 Ethernet supports a configured network and CentreWare Internet Services. The original setup uses Category 5 or better network cable and printer configuration before software installation. External wireless is optional. Native AirPrint/Mopria are unestablished; Bonjour discovery and the PC Mobile Express Driver are not proof of either phone-native protocol.

Supplies and declared yields

US standard replacement black 106R01506 is declared at 7,100 pages and CMY 106R01503/504/505 at 5,000 each. High-capacity black 106R01510 is 18,000, with CMY 106R01507/508/509 at 12,000 each under ISO/IEC 19798, varying with content, coverage and mode. Included starter yields are unestablished. Imaging units 108R00971–974 at 50,000 and waste cartridge 108R00975 at 25,000 have separate approximate declarations based on average four-page Letter/A4 jobs, varying with job length, size and orientation. No current cost or stock promise.

Software and support

Standard memory is 1 GB, with a 2 GB maximum; Adobe PostScript 3 and PCL 6/PCL 5c emulation are documented. The optional 160 GB Productivity Kit is required for Secure Print and the special job types, so base DN PIN release is false. With the kit and compatible driver, assign a 4–10 digit passcode, then touch Jobs, Personal and Secure Jobs, the private folder, enter the same code and Print; the job is deleted from the disk afterward. Direct PDF and disk-overwrite features also have storage conditions. Standard RAM collation and general encryption do not add the kit.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier exact US 6700/DN is explicitly 110 V in the original US configuration list. The actual DN physical-specification section gives 22.4 by 20.3 by 16.9 inches and 93 lb, while both US brochures give a narrower 22-inch width; this assessment uses the larger guide width and preserves the conflict. The guide location chapter contains an inconsistent lighter weight, rejected against the exact DN physical table and brochures. Verify actual label, body, accessories and condition, with extra loading, cover, output, maintenance and ventilation clearance.
