Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a compatible USB computer automatically duplex A3 color pages with at least 400 included sheets?
Yes. DN includes the duplex unit, and ordinary A3 fits the documented 148 x 210 to 297 x 432 mm automatic-duplex range at 60–120 gsm. The 250-sheet main and 150-sheet bypass total 400 at 20 lb/75 gsm; expand the main tray correctly for large sheets.
Explore this need in the finder →Can Ethernet support ordinary 3,000-page months and a declared 30 ppm one-sided Letter rate?
Yes. The exact US sheet declares 30 one-sided Letter pages/min in either color or monochrome. Three thousand is within the conservative 4,000-page monthly ceiling from the current US page; this is a maker rating, not a measured or two-sided speed.
Explore this need in the finder →Can USB provide color document scanning as well as duplex printing?
No. DN is a print-only printer with no scanner. Its automatic duplex function handles print sheets and does not provide an original-document feeder or computer scanning.

The Xerox Phaser 7100DN suits compatible computer workflows that need color output on ordinary office paper and larger A3 or Tabloid sheets. Unlike the base 7100N, DN includes automatic two-sided printing. Its standard paper supply remains 400 sheets, and USB plus Ethernet provide the documented computer connections.
This is a print-only color laser printer. It cannot scan, copy or fax, and the duplex unit does not add an original-document feeder. A workspace needing large-page document capture should choose a separately supported scanner or multifunction arrangement.
Two-sided paper has its own limits
The original guide gives an automatic-duplex range of 148 by 210 mm through 297 by 432 mm and 60–120 gsm. That covers ordinary Letter, Legal, A4, A3 and Tabloid. It does not mean every stock supported for one-sided printing can run through the duplex path.
The US detailed sheet lists a broader general simplex range of 60–216 gsm, with paper-type and source restrictions. Labels and envelopes cannot be automatically duplexed. Select the actual paper size, type and two-sided binding in a compatible driver, and match those settings to the paper loaded at the printer.
Long-edge and short-edge binding serve different document layouts. The driver's booklet routine also depends on two-sided output. Check the page orientation and intended fold before sending a large batch, especially when moving between portrait reports and landscape handouts.
Plan around the included 400-sheet supply
The main tray holds 250 sheets and the bypass 150, with capacities based on 20-pound, 75 gsm stock. Both support the five ordinary sizes above. The main tray extends for larger sheets, so tray access and working depth matter even when the printer's base body fits the desk.
Up to three optional 550-sheet feeders can raise capacity to 2,050, but they are not part of the standard 400-sheet arrangement. Check the actual installed configuration of an older machine. Photographs of expanded stacks do not establish which accessories a particular listing includes.
Use the bypass for envelopes, up to ten and one-sided. The guide gives different flap and orientation directions for smaller closed-flap formats and larger envelopes. Set the envelope size and type explicitly instead of leaving an ordinary-paper setting in place.
Keep the connection and security setup realistic
USB printing uses a rear Type B connection with a standard A/B USB 2.0 cable and appropriate driver. Ethernet uses Category 5 or better cable to a configured network and provides the printer's CentreWare Internet Services interface. The wireless adapter is optional and needs its appropriate power converter.
Historical PrintBack and PC Mobile Express Driver descriptions do not establish native AirPrint or Mopria. Before choosing an earlier printer, verify the intended operating system and a working driver for its print language and two-sided controls.
Secure Print is positively documented, with a one-to-twelve-digit numeric passcode and panel choices to print and delete or print and save. Its prerequisite is an enabled RAM Disk or the optional 40 GB Productivity Kit. The guide also describes RAM Disk as optional, while the menu map shows a RAM Disk route without a hard disk. The base activation and memory conditions remain insufficiently established, so verify the actual configuration before relying on held confidential jobs.
Read speed and monthly volume in their stated scope
The US sheet declares up to 30 one-sided Letter pages per minute for both color and monochrome, with Legal separately 20 and Tabloid/A3 separately 17. DN's two-sided figures appear in a separate table. None is a measured result or a guarantee that complex graphics, heavier stock and different quality modes run at the headline rate.
The dated 2012 specification recommends up to 8,000 pages per month, but the current exact US reference page shows up to 4,000. This assessment uses the lower 4,000-page ceiling conservatively. The separate 52,000-page duty limit is explicitly a maximum for one month and is not expected to be sustained.
Inspect supplies, voltage and room for maintenance
US supplied toner is 5,000 black and 3,000 pages for each color. Standard replacement colors are 4,500 each. High-capacity Dual Packs list 10,000 black or 9,000 color pages; those are package declarations rather than assumed per-cartridge yields. Toner uses ISO/IEC 19798, while the separate drum and waste-container maintenance declarations have different conditions.
The original US configuration list identifies DN as the 110 V N with the automatic-duplex upgrade bundled. The detailed US sheet gives an unpackaged base body of 19.7 by 21.2 by 16 inches and 97 pounds. Check the actual label, options and condition, and leave room for the extending tray, bypass, output, covers, ventilation and maintenance.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The US maker declares up to 30 one-sided Letter/A4 pages per minute in color or monochrome, separately 20 Legal and 17 Tabloid/A3. These are manufacturer declarations, not measured results. The dated 2012 specification recommends up to 8,000 pages/month, while the current exact US page shows up to 4,000; this assessment uses 4,000 conservatively. The separate 52,000-page duty limit is explicitly a one-month maximum not expected to be sustained.
Paper handling
DN includes automatic print duplex and 400 ordinary sheets: a 250-sheet main tray plus 150-sheet bypass at 20 lb/75 gsm. Both support Letter, Legal, A4, A3 and Tabloid; extend the main tray for large sheets. Automatic duplex supports those sizes within 148 x 210 to 297 x 432 mm and 60–120 gsm, excluding envelopes and labels. General simplex stock is 60–216 gsm with path and type restrictions. Three optional 550-sheet feeders are excluded. Envelopes use the bypass only, up to ten, one-sided, with format-specific flap and loading directions.
Scanning arrangement
A color print-only laser printer without scanning, copying, fax, glass or ADF. Automatic print duplex turns blank print sheets, not scanned originals. A separate scanner is required for document capture.
Computer and mobile connections
Included rear USB 2.0 Type B and 10/100 Ethernet support compatible computer printing. USB uses an A/B cable and suitable driver; Ethernet uses Category 5 or better cable to a configured network and provides CentreWare Internet Services. A wireless adapter and appropriate power converter are optional. Native AirPrint/Mopria are unestablished; older PrintBack and PC Mobile Express Driver descriptions do not establish native mobile protocols or a current cloud-service entitlement.
Supplies and declared yields
US supplied toner is declared at 5,000 black pages and 3,000 for each color. Standard replacement CMY 106R02599/02600/02601 are 4,500 each. High-capacity Dual Packs list black 106R02605 at 10,000 and CMY 106R02602/603/604 at 9,000; those are package declarations, not assumed yields for each individual cartridge. Toner uses ISO/IEC 19798 and varies with content, coverage and mode. Imaging drums and the waste cartridge have separate 24,000-page maintenance declarations with different conditions. Verify exact regional compatibility; no current cost or stock claim.
Software and support
Standard memory is 1 GB, with a 2 GB maximum and optional 40 GB Productivity Kit. Secure Print has a documented 1–12 digit numeric passcode and panel Print & Delete or Print & Save routine. The guide requires RAM Disk enabled or the optional kit and calls RAM Disk optional elsewhere. The original menu map also permits RAM Disk without a hard disk. Exact base activation and extra-memory conditions remain unestablished, so included PIN release is unknown while the conditional capability remains positively documented.
Electrical edition and setup
Earlier US 110 V edition established by the original configuration listing; verify the actual machine label and installed options. The US sheet explicitly gives an unpackaged base body of 19.7 by 21.2 by 16 inches and 97 lb, distinct from the 128.5 lb carton. Allow additional room for main-tray extension, bypass, output, covers, maintenance and ventilation. Standard body dimensions do not guarantee operating clearance.
