VersaLink B605/XIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A configured wired office needing two-sided color document capture, held computer print jobs and a documented 25,000-page recommended monthly ceiling.

The main tradeoff

Wireless requires an option, direct USB scan software has its own confirmed scope, and the tall or expanded configurations need more space.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the Ethernet X arrangement capture two-sided color Legal originals in one pass, use Legal glass and hold print jobs by passcode?

Yes with a configured network scan destination, compatible Secure Print driver and the X fax setup if fax is used. Both glass and single-pass feeder explicitly accept Legal. Included Legal paper capacity is 700 on the specified basis, and the recommended monthly ceiling is 25,000 pages.

Can a directly connected compatible USB computer capture ordinary color Legal pages and print two-sided Legal?

Yes under the later guide’s explicit USB application procedure: install the suitable TWAIN/WIA or ICA driver and application, connect an A–B cable, and select glass or feeder. Legal is confirmed for both original routes and automatic print duplex. This ordinary USB scan plan does not promise every current software version.

Does the direct USB application arrangement establish automatic single-pass Legal capture in its software?

That exact USB software routine is not established by the reviewed instructions. The hardware is single-pass and the configured network route supports duplex capture, but the USB procedure only explicitly selects glass or document feeder. Choose the documented network arrangement if that scan mode is essential.

Legal capture is part of the base B605/X

The Xerox VersaLink B605/X is an earlier monochrome LED multifunction printer with a useful document-capture combination: Legal-size glass and an included 100-sheet single-pass duplex feeder. It scans in color even though its printed output is black and white.

X also identifies the included embedded analog fax arrangement. That function needs its own approved telephone line and configuration; it is not a fax service supplied by the Ethernet port. The principal tradeoff is installation complexity: network destinations, compatible computer software and optional wireless hardware each have their own conditions.

Choose a complete scan route

Both the glass and feeder explicitly accept originals through 8.5 x 14 inches. The glass suits books and originals that should not travel through the feeder. The single-pass feeder can capture both sides without a manual turn, within its supported size, weight and loading limits.

For a network computer workflow, configure the shared folder, permissions and address-book destination. The guide describes an SMB destination with the necessary credentials. A destination name at the panel does not by itself establish that files will reach the intended computer.

The later original guide also gives a direct USB computer procedure. It requires an A–B cable, a suitable scanning application and installed TWAIN/WIA drivers for Windows or ICA for Mac. The application selects the glass or feeder and saves to its configured destination.

That concrete USB procedure supports ordinary computer capture despite an earlier regional sheet's narrower network-only driver wording. It does not explicitly establish the USB software's two-sided option. If single-pass duplex capture is essential to the chosen arrangement, use the confirmed configured network route rather than assuming every scan application exposes the same controls.

The included paper total is 700 sheets

A 550-sheet drawer and 150-sheet bypass provide 700 ordinary sheets on Xerox's 75 gsm basis. Both accept Letter, Legal and A4, and those sizes support automatic print duplex with the permitted stock. The document feeder's 100 originals and the output tray's 400 printed sheets describe different functions.

Additional drawers and the high-capacity feeder are options. In the US specification, the 2,000-sheet high-capacity feeder accepts Letter and A4 only. Its capacity should not be added to a Legal workflow. A photograph of a taller tower also cannot establish what an actual base unit includes.

Suitable envelopes can use Tray 1 or the bypass, with one-sided output and matching settings. The Tray 1 procedure calls for closed flaps facing down and the short edge entering first. Observe both its maximum count and stack-height limit rather than treating the ordinary-paper capacity as an envelope capacity.

Wired printing, mobile access and held jobs differ

Ethernet and USB computer connections are standard. Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct require the optional adapter; NFC tap pairing is not a substitute radio. An Ethernet-connected printer can nevertheless provide native AirPrint or Mopria to a suitable shared network.

Compatible computer jobs can use Secure Print and remain held until their passcode is entered. The B605 includes its hard drive, unlike configurations in the broader family that need optional storage. Personal Print is another feature and should not be confused with passcode protection. Native mobile printing does not automatically reproduce every desktop driver control.

Plan around recommended work and the actual body

The US sheet declares up to 58 one-sided Letter pages per minute, 55 A4 and 48 Legal. Its two-sided figures are separate. These are manufacturer declarations rather than measured throughput for a particular document.

The recommended average monthly volume reaches 25,000 pages. The 300,000-page maximum duty is expressly unsuitable as a sustained monthly target. Toner and drum declarations also have different conditions and do not establish current ownership cost.

The short base weighs 67.2 lb, while tall configurations and packaging have different measurements. Allow operating access beyond the closed body. For configured wired scanning and substantial monochrome office work, B605/X has a documented role; built-in wireless or a specific USB duplex-scan application requires a separately confirmed arrangement.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The June 2022 US sheet declares ISO/IEC 24734 one-sided monochrome rates up to 58 Letter, 55 A4 and 48 Legal pages/min. Two-sided rates are separately 52, 49 and 27. Recommended average monthly volume is up to 25,000 pages; 300,000 is a maximum month and is expressly not intended for regular sustained use. These declarations are not measured performance of an actual job. Color capture is not color printing.

Paper handling

Included input is 550 sheets in Tray 1 plus 150 in the bypass, totaling 700 on the specified 20 lb/75 gsm basis. Both ordinary inputs support Letter, Legal and A4. Automatic print duplex supports those sizes with the guide’s 60–176 gsm supported types and size range. Optional drawers and the 2,000-sheet high-capacity feeder are not base capacity; that US high-capacity option is Letter/A4 only. The 100-original feeder and 400-sheet output are different counts. Suitable envelopes may use the bypass or Tray 1, one-sided. Tray 1 instructions call for flaps closed and down, short edge first, no more than 50 envelopes or 45 mm stack height. Match panel and driver type, size and source.

Scanning arrangement

The color scanner has a Legal-size glass and an included 100-sheet single-pass duplex feeder, each explicitly through 8.5 x 14 inches. Letter and A4 also fit. The detailed sheet permits 60–128 gsm originals, while the guide states 60–125 gsm; observe the stricter guide range and fill limit for an actual job. Configured network scanning positively supports automatic two-sided color capture. The later November 2022 guide also explicitly supports direct USB computer capture from glass or feeder using suitable applications and TWAIN/WIA on Windows or ICA on Mac. Its USB instructions do not explicitly establish the two-sided software option, so the USB plan keeps the confirmed ordinary routes.

Computer and mobile connections

Gigabit Ethernet and Type B USB 3 computer printing are standard. A Type A memory port and NFC tap pairing have different purposes. Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct need optional adapter 497K16750. For network scanning to a computer, configure the SMB destination, address book and permissions/credentials; an unconfigured share is not a completed workflow. Native AirPrint and Mopria can use an Ethernet-connected printer on a suitable shared network, without an included radio. The minimal mobile plan does not borrow desktop scan, PIN or duplex options. The regional June sheet’s Network Only scan-driver wording is retained as a source difference; the later concrete USB procedure supports the conditional USB route.

Supplies and declared yields

The US sheet lists black replacement toner 106R03940 at 10,300 standard pages, 106R03942 at 25,900 and 106R03944 at 46,700 under ISO/IEC 19752. These are replacement declarations, not a verified supplied-toner quantity or measured ownership cost. Separate drum 101R00582 is approximately 60,000 pages, with yield affected by run length, media orientation and machine speed. No current price, remaining life or stock claim is made.

Software and support

Secure Print holds compatible computer jobs until their passcode is entered at the printer. The B605’s 320 GB HDD is standard; do not import the B600’s optional storage condition. Personal Print is a different job feature and is not equivalent to passcode protection. Direct USB scanning requires the actual compatible application, installed scan driver and A–B cable. The dated minimum operating-system lists do not guarantee every current release. X includes embedded analog fax, which needs an approved analog telephone line, configuration and a functioning connection; a digital line is not promised to work.

Electrical edition and setup

The short base body in the guide measures 18.5 x 19.8 x 25.4 inches and weighs 67.2 lb. The US sheet rounds height to 25.3; the guide’s slightly larger figure is used for body-limit filtering. The tall base configuration is 33.2 inches high and 71.7 lb, and the regional sheet clearly identifies 38 kg/83.8 lb as packaged weight. Leave tray, feeder, door and service clearance beyond body dimensions. North American 110–127 VAC and European 220–240 VAC versions are separate; inspect the actual unit label. Xerox marks the family discontinued. Photographs with optional towers do not establish the base package.
