WorkCentre 6515/DNIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired office needing color output, passcode-held jobs and automatic capture of both sides of loose Legal originals.

The main tradeoff

Wireless requires an optional adapter, included input is 300 ordinary sheets, and the scanner tables support Letter/A4 glass rather than Legal.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can an Ethernet computer combine Legal single-pass color scanning, Legal print duplex and passcode release?

Yes, with the compatible drivers and configured network scanning. The 50-sheet DADF accepts Legal and scans both sides in one pass; ordinary Legal fits automatic print duplex. Secure Print uses the driver passcode and panel release. Analog fax separately requires its configured telephone line.

Does the DN include Wi-Fi for my computer?

No. The DN configuration includes USB and Ethernet. Its wireless adapter is optional; the DNI is the configuration that includes that adapter.

Can I scan a fragile Legal original on the glass?

The scanner-specific tables limit the glass to 8.5 by 11.7 inches. Legal is supported through the feeder, which is a different path. Choose a model with explicitly supported Legal glass if that surface is essential.

A wired color MFP with a capable document feeder

The Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN suits a compatible USB or Ethernet office that needs color printing, copying, computer scanning and analog fax. Its 50-sheet single-pass feeder is a meaningful part of that role: it captures both sides of loose originals automatically, including Legal documents, without requiring the user to turn the stack over.

The DN also includes automatic two-sided printing and a documented passcode-held print routine. It does not include the wireless adapter supplied with the DNI. Xerox says the WorkCentre 6515 is no longer sold as new, so check the actual unit, electrical edition and current drivers before planning reuse. Its toner imaging uses LED technology, as identified by Xerox's model-specific material.

Choose the scanner path for the original

The document feeder accepts originals from 5.5 inches square through 8.5 by 14 inches, with a stated 60–125 gsm range. Load loose, undamaged sheets face up, top edge first, and adjust the guides. Letter, A4 and Legal fit its single-pass duplex route. The 50-sheet capacity is based on 75 gsm stock.

The scanner-specific tables give the glass a smaller 8.5-by-11.7-inch maximum. That covers Letter and A4, rather than Legal. Use it for suitable books, small items or originals that should not travel through the feeder. A Legal printing capability does not enlarge that scanning surface.

For USB computer scanning, connect an A-to-B cable and install a suitable scanning application plus TWAIN/WIA drivers for Windows or ICA for Mac. Select Flatbed or Document Feeder in the application. The documented driver controls separately select the sides and output color. Network alternatives include WSD, supported scanning applications and a configured shared computer folder; they need their own discovery, permissions and destination settings.

Keep print duplex, envelopes and capacity in context

The included 250-sheet main tray and 50-sheet bypass total 300 ordinary sheets on 20 lb/75 gsm paper. Both accept Letter, A4 and Legal. Automatic print duplex supports those ordinary sizes, with its own media restrictions: plain stock is listed at 75–105 gsm, while specified lightweight card stocks have a separate ceiling.

Select the correct size and type at the printer and in the driver. Extending a tray for Legal makes it protrude from the body. The additional 550-sheet drawer can raise input to 850, but it is an option, so assess the actual installed configuration.

Envelopes are a separate one-sided routine through Tray 1 or the bypass. The bypass holds no more than five envelopes. Number 10 envelopes enter short edge first with flaps down and to the right; other listed envelope formats have different loading choices. Ordinary-sheet capacity and duplex support should not be carried over to that envelope routine.

Use the protected job type and configure fax separately

In the compatible computer driver, Secure Print lets you assign a passcode before sending the job. At the panel, open Jobs, then Personal & Secure Jobs, select the folder and enter that code. The secure job is deleted after it prints. Ordinary Saved Jobs and Personal Print behave differently; Personal Print does not use a passcode.

Fax uses the rear LINE connector and an active dedicated analog telephone line. Configure the country, fax number, fax name and dialing settings. Ethernet carries the computer's network traffic; it does not replace the telephone line. A server-fax arrangement is a separately configured service, rather than proof that ordinary analog fax works without that line.

Plan the workload and the surrounding space

The maker declares up to 30 one-sided Letter pages per minute in color or black-and-white, with 28 on A4 and 24 on Legal. Duplex, copy and scan rates are separate. The detailed specification recommends up to 3,000 regular monthly pages; the surviving US page shows a different 4,000-page summary. The 50,000-page maximum duty figure is a separate ceiling.

Included toner is declared at 1,500 black and 1,000 pages per color under ISO/IEC 19798. Replacement cartridge yields differ, and four drums plus a waste cartridge are separate service items. Match regional supplies to the unit.

The base body is listed at 16.5 inches wide, 19.9 deep and 19.7 high, weighing about 67.7 pounds. Allow additional access for originals, covers, output and extended trays. Choose an explicitly wireless configuration when an included radio matters, or a larger scanner when Legal glass is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker-declared one-sided rates are up to 30 Letter, 28 A4 or 24 Legal pages/min in color or monochrome. Automatic duplex, scan impressions and copy rates are separate. The detailed specification recommends up to 3,000 regular monthly pages, while the surviving US page says 4K; the conservative detailed figure is retained, separately from 50,000 maximum duty. No ISO print-speed test basis is invented.

Paper handling

Included ordinary input is 250 sheets in Tray 1 plus 50 in the bypass, totaling 300 on 20 lb / 75 gsm stock. Both accept Letter, Legal and A4. Automatic print duplex supports those sizes under its 140 x 210 to 216 x 356 mm range, with plain stock 75–105 gsm and separately listed media through 176 gsm. Optional 550-sheet Tray 2 raises maximum input to 850. Envelopes use Tray 1 or bypass as a separate one-sided routine; bypass limit is five envelopes. Legal tray extensions protrude.

Scanning arrangement

The 50-sheet single-pass DADF scans both sides automatically and supports Letter, Legal and A4 within 139.7 x 139.7 to 216 x 356 mm, at 60–125 gsm; capacity basis is 75 gsm. The scanner-specific table limits the glass to 8.5 x 11.7 in., supporting Letter/A4. A generic copying paragraph gives an inconsistent larger glass size, so it does not establish Legal flatbed support. Color scanning is documented separately at up to 600 x 600 optical dpi and 24-bit color. USB TWAIN/WIA/ICA and configured network computer routes are positive; actual application controls remain necessary.

Computer and mobile connections

The DN includes rear USB Type B and gigabit Ethernet. Wireless and Wi-Fi Direct need the separately optional adapter; DNI includes it. USB supports compatible computer printing/scanning; Ethernet supports configured network scanning. Basic AirPrint/Mopria may use an Ethernet-connected printer on a suitable shared network. The front USB memory socket is separate from the computer cable.

Supplies and declared yields

The detailed specification declares included black toner at 1,500 and each included color at 1,000 average standard pages to ISO/IEC 19798, distinct from replacement black 2,500/5,500, color 1,000/2,400/4,300. US brochure numbers include black 106R03476/106R03480, standard CMY 106R03473–475, high CMY 106R03477–479 and extra-high CMY 106R03690–692; confirm regional compatibility. Four separate drums carry approximate 48,000-page declarations and waste cartridge 108R01416 30,000; the US brochure uses a three-page A4/Letter job basis. No current cost per page is calculated.

Software and support

Use compatible print and scan drivers. USB computer scanning needs an A-to-B cable, a scanning application and TWAIN/WIA for Windows or ICA for Mac. The driver example explicitly offers one-sided/two-sided scanning and output color. Secure Print uses a computer-driver passcode and panel release through Jobs > Personal & Secure Jobs, deleting the job after printing. Personal Print has no passcode. No exact print-passcode length is asserted. Current software support must be checked for the intended system.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier US variant reference; Xerox says WorkCentre 6515 is no longer sold as new. The US brochure and detailed sheet give a base body 16.5 in wide, 19.9 deep and 19.7 high at 67.7 lb, without the optional drawer; the guide rounds weight to 68 lb. Allow feeder, glass, output and Legal-tray access beyond that outline. The detailed sheet distinguishes North American 120 V / 60 Hz from European 220–240 V / 50 Hz, but the actual unit edition must be verified. Analog fax needs an active dedicated line at LINE and configured country, fax number/name and dialing settings; it is not carried by the computer network.
