Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can Ethernet support Legal color print duplex, automatic Legal color capture, PIN release and fax with at least 600 included sheets?
Yes, with compatible computer software, configured capture destination and the separate operating analog fax line. DN includes print duplex and 700 ordinary sheets at 75 gsm. The 50-sheet DADF captures both original faces; its physical method is not established as single-pass.
Explore this need in the finder →Can USB scanning capture a full fragile Legal original on the glass?
No. The exact specification lists the glass for Letter/A4 and Legal through the feeder. An original that cannot travel through the DADF needs a scanner with a documented larger glass.
Explore this need in the finder →Does automatic duplex feeder capture satisfy a single-pass Legal requirement?
This reference does not qualify. Automatic two-sided capture is supported, but the read original sources do not establish whether both faces are read in one pass or by another physical method.
Explore this need in the finder →Both sides of the office document routine
The Xerox WorkCentre 6605DN combines automatic color print duplex with a 50-sheet duplex automatic document feeder. It suits a compatible wired office that prints two-sided documents, captures both faces of loose originals and uses protected computer jobs. Native analog fax is included for a separately configured telephone line.
The practical limits remain important. Legal originals use the feeder, not the glass, and the read material does not establish a single-pass scanning mechanism. Wireless hardware and additional paper input are optional. Xerox identifies the family as no longer sold as new, so check the actual unit and available software before reuse.
Match the original to the feeder or glass
The DADF accepts suitable Letter, A4 and Legal originals. Its 50-sheet capacity is based on 75 gsm stock. One-sided originals use a stated 50–125 gsm range; automatic two-sided originals use 60–125 gsm. Adjust the guides, use suitable loose sheets and respect the fill line when thickness changes.
Automatic capture of both faces is positively documented. Its physical method is not established here as reversing or single-pass, so a requirement for both faces in one pass needs another explicitly documented model. Do not convert a lower duplex image rate into a claim about the internal mechanism.
The glass is explicitly listed for Letter/A4 and provides the route for suitable items that should not enter the feeder. A fragile or bound Legal original exceeds the documented glass scope. Color capture is supported independently of print color or the touch panel.
Configure the computer destination, not just the print queue
USB 2.0 and gigabit Ethernet are standard. The original manual distinguishes compatible USB scanning from network shared-folder delivery. Verify the necessary scan software and destination setup for the chosen connection, then check the resulting file before making the routine part of normal work.
USB-only scanning does not deliver to a network folder or email server. Ethernet delivery needs the appropriate destination permissions and address-book entry. Front USB memory capture is another routine, separate from the rear computer connection and from network delivery.
Native AirPrint is documented through a suitable shared network with IPP, Bonjour/mDNS and appropriate subnet discovery. The printer can use Ethernet while a compatible mobile device uses the network access point. The Wi-Fi radio is optional; Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct adapter workflows have separate accessory conditions. Advanced desktop controls should be checked in the actual mobile application.
Use the included input before counting expansion
The main tray holds 550 sheets and the bypass source 150, totaling 700 ordinary sheets at 75 gsm/20 lb. Letter, A4 and Legal are documented for the ordinary paper sources and automatic print duplex. Set the loaded size, type and intended binding edge correctly in suitable software.
Ordinary plain stock is listed at 75–105 gsm. Lightweight cardstock has separate 106–163 gsm duplex conditions; heavier-media limits are different. Supported envelopes use the bypass one-sided. An ordinary duplex document and an envelope job therefore need their own appropriate stock settings.
A second 550-sheet drawer raises maximum input to 1,250 only when installed. A product illustration may show options, so confirm the actual package and driver configuration before relying on that larger number.
Keep confidential jobs and telephone fax distinct
Secure Print is standard on WorkCentre 6605. The official original section describes assigning a passcode to the compatible driver job and releasing it through Job Status, Secure Jobs, the user or folder and the entered code. This is a document-release routine, separate from a panel administrator password.
Ordinary stored jobs are volatile when power is removed; persistent storage requires the relevant optional kit. Native fax needs an operating analog line at LINE and configured fax settings. Ethernet supplies the computer network connection, not that telephone service.
Plan the workload and supporting space
Declared print speed is up to 36 one-sided Letter or 35 A4 pages per minute, with duplex separately up to 24 for Letter/A4. Scanner image rates are separate. The US historical page recommends up to 4,000 monthly print pages, while the 2017 detailed sheet says 5,000; use the lower figure conservatively. The 80,000-page duty ceiling is not a sustained target.
Starter declarations under ISO/IEC 19798 are 3,000 black pages and 2,000 per color. Check regional replacement identities and separate service parts. The unpackaged body is about 16.9 inches wide, 20.8 deep and 22 high at 71.7 pounds. Allow feeder, glass, tray and cover access, and verify the actual electrical label against the documented US 110V configuration.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Up to 36 one-sided Letter or 35 A4 pages/min in color or monochrome; automatic duplex print is separately up to 24 ppm for Letter/A4. No ISO/IEC 24734 print basis is asserted. Scan declarations are up to 22 mono simplex / 7 mono duplex and 13 color simplex / 4 color duplex images/min for Letter/A4. The current historical US recommendation is up to 4,000 monthly print pages versus 5,000 in June 2017 detailed specifications; the lower 4,000 is used conservatively, without a minimum. Maximum duty is 80,000 pages, not a sustained target.
Paper handling
DN includes automatic print duplex. Standard 550-sheet main plus 150-sheet bypass input totals 700 at 75 gsm / 20 lb. Letter, Legal and A4 are documented for both ordinary sources and automatic duplex. Plain stock is 75–105 gsm; lightweight cardstock has separate 106–163 gsm duplex conditions. Heavier 164–216 gsm media is not universal duplex stock. Supported envelopes use the bypass one-sided. The optional second 550-sheet drawer raises maximum input to 1,250. The exact US DN catalog and later detailed sheet agree on the 550-sheet main tray.
Scanning arrangement
The 50-sheet DADF at 75 gsm automatically captures both sides of suitable Letter, Legal and A4 originals. Simplex original range is 50–125 gsm and duplex 60–125 gsm. The read sources establish automatic two-sided capture, but do not establish reversing versus single-pass physical mechanism; no single-pass qualification is claimed. The glass is explicitly listed for Letter/A4. Legal uses the feeder. Color capture is supported and remains separate from output color or the touch panel.
Computer and mobile connections
USB 2.0 Type B and gigabit Ethernet are standard compatible computer routes. USB scanning needs suitable drivers and Express Scan Manager with an output destination or the documented application routine. Ethernet delivery to a computer needs the configured shared-folder/address-book destination and permissions. USB-only scanning does not send to email/network folders. Front USB memory capture is distinct. Native AirPrint uses a suitable shared network with IPP, Bonjour/mDNS and appropriate subnet discovery. Wi-Fi hardware, Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct adapter arrangements are optional. Advanced mobile capture, duplex and PIN controls are not borrowed from desktop plans.
Supplies and declared yields
US starter declarations under ISO/IEC 19798 are black 3,000 and each CMY 2,000 average standard pages. Standard replacements are black 106R02244 at 3,000 and CMY 106R02241/242/243 at 2,000 each; high black 106R02228 is 8,000 and high CMY 106R02225/226/227 are 6,000 each. Actual image, coverage and mode alter yield. Regional cartridge codes differ. Imaging, waste, fuser and transfer service items are separate; maintenance declarations depend on job length and media. No live cost, availability or current coverage is promised.
Software and support
WorkCentre standard memory is 512 MB and Secure Print is standard. Select the compatible driver Job Type and assign a 1–12 digit passcode. The original official indexed section releases through Job Status > Secure Jobs > user/folder > passcode > OK > quantity > Print, with optional delete-after-print confirmation. Ordinary stored jobs are volatile; persistent storage needs an optional Productivity Kit. Native analog fax separately needs an operating telephone line at LINE and configured fax settings. Verify current software, destination protocols and actual telephone service.
Electrical edition and setup
Earlier exact US 6605/DN color laser 110V configuration is positive in the historical October 2012 maker catalog; verify the actual physical mains label. The unpackaged body with replaceable units is about 16.9 x 20.8 x 22 in. at 71.7 lb, without optional drawer or stand. Allow additional feeder, glass, loading, cover and ventilation access. Legal-length trays extend beyond the compact closed-tray footprint; carton dimensions and 82.7 lb shipping weight are different.
