A wired four-in-one printer for a modest document workload

The Dell E515dn combines monochrome printing, color scanning, copying and fax in a relatively compact multifunction body. Its 35-sheet original feeder and automatic print duplex make it more useful for routine paperwork than a print-only device, provided the exact paper and connection conditions fit.

The dn configuration has USB and Ethernet. It should not inherit the wireless features of the separate E515dw merely because both names appear in a shared operating guide. This assessment uses the documented 110–120V US operating edition.

Legal automatic duplex is confirmed by the operating procedure

The original US instructions explicitly name Letter, Legal and Folio for automatic two-sided printing. They specify suitable plain, thin or recycled paper and describe choosing the automatic two-sided driver setting, with the appropriate binding orientation. This is different from printing one side and manually reloading the paper.

The brochure's broader duplex-media row also names formats and media that do not agree with those operating instructions. We follow the actual US procedure: A4 can qualify for one-sided printing, but an A4 automatic-duplex requirement is not treated as confirmed here. Envelopes use the separate manual-feed routine, not automatic duplex.

Use the feeder for Legal originals and the glass for individual pages

The original guide accepts documents up to 8.5×14 inches through the 35-sheet feeder, including Legal sheets. The glass accepts shorter originals up to 8.5×11.8 inches, covering Letter and A4. Legal on the feeder and Legal on the glass are therefore different questionnaire choices.

Color scanning is documented even though printed pages are monochrome. The scanning area has normal unscannable margins, so supported document size is not a promise of full-bleed capture to every edge. Automatic two-sided original scanning is not established by the feeder's presence; the verified arrangement is the ordinary one-sided feeder route.

USB and network scanning have actual computer workflows

The original Scan to PC and Apple Image Capture instructions distinguish a USB-connected computer from a computer reached over the network. They describe choosing the destination, feeder or glass and file or application settings. A compatible installed scanner driver and application are part of the arrangement.

AirPrint and Mopria are separately documented same-network printing options. They belong to the configured Ethernet network route rather than the USB computer plan. A four-digit PIN can protect a scanning destination, but that is not evidence of PIN-release printing at the output tray.

Count 250 ordinary sheets, not another stacked manual tray

The cassette holds 250 ordinary sheets. The separate hand-feed path accepts one sheet at a time, including an instructed envelope. We use the cassette's 250 sheets for bulk-input matching rather than treating the one-sheet slot as another ordinary paper stack.

Dell recommends 300–1,000 pages per month, distinct from the 10,000-page maximum duty cycle. One-sided output is declared at 27ppm Letter or 26ppm A4. The original documents give different duplex-rate figures, so those are not presented as our measurements or a guaranteed application-job time.

Check installation access, supplies and current software support

The exact US brochure lists a 16.1×15.7×12.5-inch body. Its supplied-weight figure conflicts with the family operating guide, so we do not offer a single precise weight. Leave extra room for the glass cover, original feeder, paper, cables and servicing.

The brochure declares a 700-page starter, 1,200-page ordinary replacement and 2,600-page high-yield toner, plus a separate drum. Those figures do not establish remaining supplies or current cost. Confirm the actual computer driver, compatible consumables and condition of the offered machine. Choose the E515dw only when its separately documented wireless arrangement is the feature you need.
