ECOSYS M8124cidnIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

An office needing color large-paper output and automatic reversing-feeder scans over a supported Ethernet or Wi-Fi network.

The main tradeoff

Fax and application storage are optional. Large-paper input is 525 sheets in the documented base arrangement, and the feeder is not single-pass.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can an ordinary Wi-Fi network handle color Tabloid printing and automatic two-sided Tabloid feeder scans?

Yes, in the reviewed US/inch network arrangement. The 50-sheet feeder reverses originals; it is not single-pass.

Does a 600-sheet headline satisfy 600 included sheets on A3?

No. The specific large-sheet multipurpose capacity is 25, giving 525 with the 500-sheet cassette.

Can the reversing feeder satisfy single-pass scanning?

No. Automatic two-sided scanning and single-pass scanning are different requirements.

A3 color documents are the reason to consider this MFP

The Kyocera ECOSYS M8124cidn combines color printing, copying and scanning with paper handling beyond Letter and Legal. It is useful to compare when layouts, worksheets or office drawings genuinely need A3 or US Tabloid/Ledger output. Buying a larger machine just to make ordinary Letter documents is a different decision from needing that wider paper path.

The exact American reference identifies a 4.3-inch color control panel and standard 50-sheet reversing document feeder. Fax and application storage are options. A generic product-page section describing fax specifications does not mean the offered base machine includes the required fax board.

24ppm applies to Letter, with a separate larger-paper rate

The original model tables declare 24 pages per minute in color and monochrome on Letter or A4, and 12 on Legal or Ledger. This is not a 24ppm promise for every sheet size. Automatic two-sided output is supported, but a dedicated duplex-print speed is not established here.

Scanner figures describe a different process: 50 simplex or 16 duplex images per minute at the guide's A4-landscape, 300dpi condition. They should not replace the printer's pages-per-minute figure. We have not measured output quality, real application completion time or the performance of a particular used unit.

Large paper changes the included capacity calculation

The standard arrangement combines a 500-sheet cassette and multipurpose tray. The original loading instructions expressly list A3, Ledger and Legal in cassette 1. That specific loading table resolves an incomplete size list in the guide's later summary rather than treating A3 support as an unverified marketing headline.

The multipurpose tray holds 100 sheets for A4/Letter or smaller, but only 25 for larger sheets at the stated ordinary-paper weight. Our size-specific capacity is therefore 600 for Letter/A4 and 525 for Legal/A3/Tabloid. A 600-sheet requirement on larger paper should not pass merely because the general headline says 600. The 1,600-sheet maximum needs extra feeders.

The feeder reverses originals instead of scanning both sides in one pass

The standard 50-sheet RADF can process both sides automatically through a reversing routine. The documented feeder accepts A3/Ledger originals. It suits a buyer who needs automatic two-sided acquisition, but it does not satisfy a requirement for a single-pass scanner.

A flatbed is also present. The general maximum-scan statement is not specific enough to assign every feeder size to the glass, so this assessment does not promise an A3/Tabloid flatbed route. If both a large feeder and a large book-scanning glass are essential, obtain the exact route-specific confirmation rather than substituting one for the other.

Use a documented network scanning arrangement

The American comparison lists standard wireless LAN and Wi-Fi Direct alongside the USB and Ethernet hardware described in the guide. Ethernet or an ordinary Wi-Fi network supports the documented computer scanning arrangement and compatible same-network AirPrint/Mopria printing.

The USB computer port establishes printing; the scanner interface table instead identifies Ethernet and wireless. We therefore do not borrow network scanning to make a USB-only plan pass. A peer-only Wi-Fi Direct printing claim likewise does not establish every computer-scanning function without an appropriate documented setup.

Inspect storage, fax and the assembled installation

The guide describes four-digit Private Print, but its RAM-disk page includes an optional-SSD condition. That leaves standard-package PIN sufficiency unresolved. A required included PIN feature consequently does not match here, and HyPAS application support independently needs its documented storage option.

The printed body dimensions explicitly exclude the document processor, so they are unsuitable for certifying an assembled-machine height limit. Check the actual configuration and access space. Compare the M8130cidn for a faster Letter rate and larger panel; its different model column also supports an optional finisher unavailable in the M8124cidn column. Neither optional finishing nor the 100,000-page duty declaration proves the base package or a recommended monthly workload.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Declared Letter/A4 color and monochrome 24 ppm; Legal/Ledger 12 ppm. Scanner separately declares 50 simplex/16 duplex images per minute on A4 landscape at 300 dpi. No duplex-print rate is inferred.

Paper handling

Cassette 1 loading table expressly supports A3/Ledger/Legal at 500 sheets, despite an incomplete later summary list. MP adds 100 sheets for A4/Letter or smaller, only 25 for larger paper: selected Legal/A3/Tabloid included total is 525, not 600. 1600 maximum needs options.

Scanning arrangement

Standard 50-sheet reversing feeder supports both sides, including documented A3/Ledger sizes; it is not single-pass. Generic scan maximum is not used to assert an A3/Tabloid flatbed route. Computer scanning is assigned only to documented Ethernet/WLAN arrangements.

Computer and mobile connections

USB computer, Ethernet and US/inch-model wireless are documented. US original comparison explicitly lists standard wireless LAN and Wi-Fi Direct. Same-network AirPrint/Mopria are assigned to ordinary network plans; peer-only computer scanning is not assumed.

Supplies and declared yields

Check the exact offered regional toner set and supplied accessories. The US page lists TK-8117 colors and black, but no current price, remaining yield or cost-per-page is asserted.

Software and support

Four-digit Private Print is described, but the original RAM-disk page expressly mentions an optional SSD. Base-package storage sufficiency is unresolved, so a required standard PIN feature is not matched. HyPAS applications independently require optional SSD/SDHC.

Electrical edition and setup

Review covers the exact US model with documented 120 V/60 Hz, 7.2 A configuration. Guide dimensions explicitly exclude the document processor, so assembled-body limit fields remain unconfirmed. Fax System13, expanded feeders and application storage are optional; no base fax is inferred from generic fax specifications.
