B431d (91659901, Black 120 V)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

An established USB computer workflow where automatic two-sided Letter/A4 documents matter and built-in network sharing is unnecessary.

The main tradeoff

No built-in Ethernet, scanner or verified Wi-Fi. Legal automatic duplex is not confirmed, and original multipurpose-tray capacity figures conflict.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the 120 V B431d print automatic two-sided Letter documents over USB?

Yes, with the documented cassette paper conditions and compatible computer driver.

Does the B431d include the same built-in Ethernet interface as the dn model?

No. The exact interface table reserves the network print server for the dn configurations.

Is automatic two-sided Legal output confirmed because Legal appears in the paper table?

No. The original automatic-duplex instructions name Letter and A4; Legal uses the separate manual procedure.

Choose the B431d for direct computer printing

The OKI B431d is the direct-connection member of the older B431 monochrome LED range. It combines automatic two-sided printing, a 250-sheet cassette and a separate multipurpose paper path. Its main distinction from the B431dn is the connection arrangement: the d version does not include the dn model's built-in Ethernet print server.

This assessment concerns the black 120V unit, part 91659901. A similarly named 220V version and the networked dn configuration have separate order numbers. The B431dn+ is also a different model with a different speed declaration.

Automatic duplex is confirmed for Letter and A4

The original automatic-duplex instructions identify Letter and A4 ordinary paper, suitable paper weight and the cassette path. Select the compatible computer driver and the required long-edge or short-edge binding. This is automatic two-sided output; it does not require the manual first-pass-and-reload routine used for certain other paper choices.

Legal paper appears in the general supported-size table and in the manual-duplex instructions. It is not named in that automatic-duplex section. A buyer who needs unattended two-sided Legal contracts should therefore choose another documented configuration, even though the B431d can print one-sided Legal documents.

A multipurpose feeder is useful, but its capacity needs checking

The standard cassette holds 250 ordinary sheets. A 530-sheet second cassette is optional, changing both the available paper supply and the installed size. An illustration with the extra drawer does not make that drawer part of every offer.

The original Americas brochure and manual-duplex procedure describe a 100-sheet multipurpose path, while the guide's later specification table lists 50. Because those original figures conflict, we do not use a combined standard-input capacity as a confirmed questionnaire threshold. For envelopes and other special stock, use the instructed multipurpose path, appropriate paper settings and required output arrangement; ordinary-sheet capacity is not envelope capacity.

USB and parallel do not make this a network model

The manufacturer lists USB and parallel interfaces for the B431d. Ethernet is reserved for the dn versions in the same specification. Sharing a computer's attached printer is a separate computer-managed setup, not proof that this unit contains an Ethernet interface.

Wi-Fi, native AirPrint, Mopria and a verified PIN-release workflow are not established by the reviewed material. Printer memory, an LCD panel or support for a page-description language should not be treated as equivalent features. If built-in wired sharing is the requirement, compare the B431dn instead of expecting the d suffix to provide it.

The 40ppm figure is a one-sided Letter declaration

The original guide gives 40 pages per minute on Letter and 38 on A4 for the ordinary B431 engine. Those numbers are manufacturer declarations, not our timing results, duplex rates or complete application-job measurements. The higher 47ppm Letter figure belongs to the separate B431dn+.

The 80,000-page maximum monthly duty cycle is another distinct measurement. It does not confirm a recommended sustained monthly workload. This review therefore does not convert that maximum into a promise that regular high-volume months are appropriate.

Check supplies, physical access and current driver support

The B431d uses separate toner and image-drum components. The brochure declares a 2,000-page starter and 4,000- or 10,000-page replacement toner yields under ISO/IEC 19752. Remaining toner, component wear, present prices and actual ownership cost depend on the individual offer and use; a declared cartridge yield cannot establish them.

The documented body is 15.2×14.3×9.6 inches and approximately 26lb without the optional second tray. Leave room for paper loading, rear output, cables and service access. The source lists older Windows and Mac systems, so check the actual current driver before committing to an established USB workflow. Choose a multifunction printer when the task includes scanning or copying: the B431d's output mechanism does not supply either function.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

B431 declares 40 ppm Letter and 38 ppm A4, separate from the 47 ppm Letter B431dn+. These are one-sided manufacturer rates, not measured job or duplex speeds.

Paper handling

250-sheet cassette is standard; a 530-sheet second tray is optional. The US brochure and original manual-duplex section describe100 sheets in the multipurpose path, while the guide specification row says50. A combined included capacity is therefore not used as a confirmed numeric threshold. Automatic duplex explicitly supports Letter/A4, not Legal.

Scanning arrangement

Dedicated monochrome LED printer without scanning, copying, fax or document-feeder hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

B431d has USB and parallel interfaces. The original specifications reserve built-in Ethernet for B411dn/B431dn; neither Wi-Fi nor native AirPrint/Mopria is confirmed. Choose the dn model when a built-in wired network connection is essential.

Supplies and declared yields

Separate toner and image drum. Brochure declares 2000-page starter, 4000-page ordinary and 10000-page high-capacity toner under ISO/IEC 19752. Drum declarations depend on pages per job and differ between documents; no current page cost or remaining toner is inferred.

Software and support

B431 supports PCL5e/PCL6 and PostScript 3 emulation, plus legacy printer emulations. The original automatic-duplex procedure uses an appropriate computer driver. Old Windows/Mac listings do not establish current operating-system support.

Electrical edition and setup

Black120 V B431d is exact part 91659901, separately listed from 220 V tan 62435402 and networked B431dn 91659903. Body 15.2 × 14.3 × 9.6 in, approximately 26 lb without optional second tray. Allow paper, rear output, cables and service space.
