Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the 120 V B431dn print Letter documents automatically on both sides over Ethernet?
Yes, with a compatible computer driver and the documented ordinary-paper cassette routine.
Explore this need in the finder →Does Legal paper support also confirm automatic two-sided Legal printing?
No. The original automatic-duplex instruction lists Letter and A4; Legal is documented for a manual reload routine.
Explore this need in the finder →Can it scan a document to my computer over its Ethernet connection?
No. This dedicated LED printer has no scanner hardware.
Explore this need in the finder →The B431dn is the networked B431, not the faster dn+
The OKI B431dn is an earlier monochrome LED printer for computer-based document output. The useful combination is built-in Ethernet, automatic two-sided printing and a separate multipurpose paper path. It does not include a scanner, copier or fax.
This review covers the black 120V B431dn, manufacturer part 91659903. The plain B431d and the B431dn+ are separate configurations. In particular, the dn+ has a different speed declaration; its 47ppm figure should not be used to describe this 40ppm Letter model.
Automatic duplex is more restricted than the general paper list
The original guide supports one-sided Letter, Legal and A4 printing. Its automatic-duplex instructions are narrower: they explicitly name Letter and A4, suitable ordinary paper and the cassette path. Legal appears in the manual-duplex instructions, where a user reloads printed sheets.
That means a Legal document can be printed without qualifying the B431dn for automatic two-sided Legal work. If your questionnaire choice requires Legal duplex, this model is excluded rather than treated as a near-enough answer. For Letter or A4 reports, select the compatible driver and long-edge or short-edge binding appropriate to the document.
Check the multipurpose tray before relying on a capacity total
The 250-sheet cassette is consistently documented. A 530-sheet second cassette is an optional addition, so an expanded picture or maximum-capacity claim does not establish what a particular offer includes. The second drawer also increases installation size.
There is a specific inconsistency in the original documentation for the multipurpose feeder: the US brochure and manual-duplex section describe 100 sheets, while the guide's specification table says 50. We keep that difference visible and do not use a combined standard-input number to promise a minimum capacity. The multipurpose path remains useful for instructed envelopes and other suitable media, with the required stock and output settings.
Ethernet provides computer sharing, not every mobile protocol
The dn configuration adds a 10/100 Ethernet print server to USB and parallel connections. That is the meaningful difference from the non-networked B431d when several compatible computers need access to the printer. It does not establish built-in Wi-Fi or make USB and Ethernet equivalent to every phone-printing arrangement.
The reviewed material does not confirm native AirPrint, Mopria or a PIN-release submission-and-collection routine for this exact model. Those requirements therefore need a differently documented choice. The presence of a control panel, network management utility or printer memory is not sufficient evidence of private job release.
Separate engine speed, monthly duty and supplies
The original B431 specification declares 40 pages per minute on Letter and 38 on A4. These are one-sided engine rates, not our test results, complete-job timings or duplex rates. The separate 80,000-page maximum monthly duty cycle should not be interpreted as a sustained monthly recommendation.
The toner and image drum are separate components. The brochure lists a 2,000-page starter declaration and replacement toner options with 4,000- and 10,000-page ISO/IEC 19752 yields. Drum-life figures depend on job length and differ between the original documents, so neither consumable declaration establishes a current price per page or the condition of an older machine.
Best suited to an established wired document setup
The documented body is 15.2×14.3×9.6 inches and approximately 26lb without the optional second tray. Leave room for rear output, paper handling, ventilation, cables and servicing. Match the 120V edition rather than substituting the separately listed 220V version.
PCL and PostScript emulation can help an existing computer workflow, but the older operating-system list is not a guarantee of current driver support. Choose the B431dn when its verified wired printing and Letter/A4 duplex fit the job. If a direct connection is enough, the B431d removes the built-in network interface; a multifunction printer is required when scanning forms part of the routine.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
B431 declares 40 ppm Letter and 38 ppm A4, separate from the 47 ppm Letter B431dn+. These are one-sided manufacturer rates, not measured job or duplex speeds.
Paper handling
250-sheet cassette is standard; a 530-sheet second tray is optional. The US brochure and original manual-duplex section describe100 sheets in the multipurpose path, while the guide specification row says50. A combined included capacity is therefore not used as a confirmed numeric threshold. Automatic duplex explicitly supports Letter/A4, not Legal.
Scanning arrangement
Dedicated monochrome LED printer without scanning, copying, fax or document-feeder hardware.
Computer and mobile connections
Exactdn includes10/100 Ethernet alongside USB and parallel. It is not the USB-only d configuration. Wi-Fi, native AirPrint/Mopria and PIN release are not confirmed by the reviewed sources.
Supplies and declared yields
Separate toner and image drum. Brochure declares 2000-page starter, 4000-page ordinary and 10000-page high-capacity toner under ISO/IEC 19752. Drum declarations depend on pages per job and differ between documents; no current page cost or remaining toner is inferred.
Software and support
B431 supports PCL5e/PCL6 and PostScript 3 emulation, plus legacy printer emulations. The original automatic-duplex procedure uses an appropriate computer driver. Old Windows/Mac listings do not establish current operating-system support.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact black120 V B431dn part 91659903 is listed separately from 220 V tan 62435404. Body 15.2 × 14.3 × 9.6 in and approximately 26 lb exclude the optional second tray; allow rear output, paper, cable and service access.
